I watched a video the other day that really put my blogging life in perspective. It's from The Bloggy Boot Camp site which the lovely Neely had a link to on Twitter or Facebook, and it really got me to thinking about why I blog.
I'm not going to lie, the past few months I really toyed with the idea of completely shutting down my blog altogether. For some reason I just wasn't getting the satisfaction of it like I use to. I was too caught up in the numbers part - I don't have a huge following, few comments, etc.. But after watching the above video it really got me to thinking....why in this world do I blog, and the answer was...
I blog for my own personal gratification.
Yes, we all tend to get caught up in the numbers, but honestly that's not what matters. I find when that happens I hate blogging. I get jealous of so many other bloggers because of this, even of the blogs I love dearly. When I first started this little blog almost 3 years ago it wasn't about my following. No matter how crappily written posts I wrote, I did it for one thing, me. I'm slowly but surely getting back to that, and surprisingly enough I find more motivation and inspiration to write when I write for the sole purpose of writing for myself.
I sincerely hope that I find more joy in blogging in the coming months than these past few, because sometimes I've really just wanted to hit the "delete" button.
Before I turn this into a pity party, why do you blog?
This is precisely why I blog! It's not for the numbers, although I do love all of you :), it's just for me! I love having my own little space that is just mine.
Honestly, I've been going through the same thing. I used to look forward to writing my blogposts each day and over the past few months it's almost become a hassle. I get caught up in numbers too.. and I have serious jealousy issues with some bloggers. It's so bad. But in the New Year I'm trying to have a more positive look at it.. and revert to my old ways. I hate what I've let blogging become to me. I want to LOVE it again rather than think about quitting altogether. Love your blog Heather!!
I totally agree!! Of course sometimes it's hard not to get caught up in numbers, but blogging really is a personal thing that we do for ourselves!! I love having all my memories written out to remember forever!!
I'm a 20 something southern girl making my way through life. I'm a 2010 college post-grad who is trying to make the transition from school to working girl. I've been with my man 4 1/2 years and now I'm just waiting on that ring. I love my family even though they drive me insane most days. I love movies, rock music, anything paisley, bright colors, and puppy dogs. I'm a simple kind of gal. Highly emotional and a little hot-tempered. So come follow me through this crazy thing I call my life!
